Music?
Prior to 1969 I was a dedicated "Tamla Motown" fan, but in May of that year a belated birthday gift changed all that forever!
The gift an album ( yes we are back in the days of the black disc) from for me an obscure group that meant nothing to me.
The Album Abraxas, the group Santana.
A small event you might say, So What?
The music sparked something in me like a light going on.
My love of music took a new turn nothing was out of bounds from the classics to classic rock and every genera in between.
But the Music of Carlos Santana has stuck with me over the years and seems as fresh and vibrant as the day in 1969 I put that black disc on the Danset Bermuda and musically never looked back.
I was reminded of this today as I worked out on the turbo trainer with Se a Cabo (now on the Santana Ultimate Collection) playing through my headset
Music a memory maker for me.
How about You?

DeleteI looooove Santana...do you know Carlos is designing shoes now?
ReplyDeleteNO D I did not know he was, Im glad you like the music it means I am in good company;)
DeleteI don't know how many times I played that album. Now I have it on CD. Having a tin ear, I have relied on friends to stretch my musical tastes and they have introduced to everything from Holst and Brahms to Herbie Hancock and Oregon. Still a special place in my heart, though, for oldies from the 60's.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning and Amen to That Benni
DeleteI like most kinds of music (have to being married to a jazz bebop etc. drummer) but at that time I was busy with my 4 hobbies known as children (from baby to 13 years old) so did not realise very much what was going on in the music world, although I quite like Santana. My music heart, however, belongs to Paolo Conte.
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon Pat there is music out there enough for everybody;)
ReplyDeleteMy fav Santana is Black Magic Woman. :)
ReplyDeleteYes one of my Favs as well;)
DeleteA classic album, Baz!! I discovered Santana around 1975, but it was this very album, borrowed from a friend, that was the first record of his I heard. Off the top of my head, fave tracks of his, over the years have been: 'She's Not There', 'Samba Pa Ti' and the more recent 'Smooth'.
ReplyDeleteYes all great works Mitch I just rediscovered the "ultimate collection" lost on my shelves and have been reacquainting myself with the music as I work out on the Turbo;)
DeleteTry this one from Santana, Yo Yo Mah and Indie.Arie

My first Santana "Album" was actually a Reel to Reel Tape which I purchased in Japan in 1969. The cover looks like a giant lion's head, but when you examine it closely it is a composite drawing of all the members of the band.
ReplyDeleteI discovered that the tape used for 8 Tracks was the same as reel to reel, so I was able to purchase a few cheap 8 tracks, remove the tape, put it on one reel to reel then record over it by playing the original o the other Reel to Reel then replace it in the 8 track housing. This allowed me to take my music with me. Later on when cassettes replaced 8 tracks, it was simply a matter of hooking a casseette recorder into the amp and record directly to the cassette.
The "master" tape on Reel to Reel is still in my collection, and every now and then I will pull it out and play it for my son's friends who have mistkenly believed that MP3 and Digital is good quality. They are usually blown away by the "original" sound.
I was visiting my son in Cleveland this summer and we were discussing this. I told him, "MP3 is the equivalent of hooking a garden hose to a fire hydrant."
LOL Great response Tim, thanks for your visit and comment, I very much enjoyed your reply;)
